Evaluation Index of Hydrophilic Non-woven Fabric

Ⅰ. Introduction of hydrophilic non-woven fabric

Hydrophilic non-woven fabric is an environmentally friendly textile fabric. You may not know it at this time, but you will know by just a few of the products it makes. We often see diapers for adults or babies, wipes necessary for household life, sanitary napkins for ladies, etc., all made of it, and the hydrophilic non-woven fabric has strong liquid absorption. It is harmless to human body, convenient and practical.

Hydrophilic non-woven fabric and water-repellent non-woven fabric are relative. Hydrophilic non-woven fabrics are produced by adding hydrophilic agents to the production process of non-woven fabrics, or adding hydrophilic agents to the fibers during the fiber production process, and then producing non-woven fabrics.

The purpose of adding the hydrophilic agent is that the fiber or non-woven fabric is a high molecular polymer, and its own hydrophilic groups are few or there is no hydrophilic group, which cannot achieve the hydrophilic properties required in the application of non-woven fabrics. Therefore, a hydrophilic agent is added.

Ⅱ. Evaluation index of hydrophilic non-woven fabric

The main evaluation indexes of hydrophilicity of hydrophilic non-woven fabric are water absorption, contact angle, capillary effect and so on.

1. Water absorption

Refers to the amount of water absorbed per unit mass of the hydrophilic non-woven fabric in the standard time or within the time required for the material to be completely wetted. The larger the water absorption, the better the effect.

2. Contact angle method

Lay the hydrophilic non-woven on a clean and smooth glass plate, lay it flat in an oven to melt it, take out the glass plate after melting, cool it naturally to room temperature, use the direct test method to measure the equilibrium contact angle, the smaller the contact angle, the better.

3. Capillary effect

The test method is to place a hydrophilic non-woven sample with a length of 30cm and a width of 3cm in a capillary effect instrument vertically, the water temperature is controlled at (27±2)℃, the length of the sample into the water is 8-10mm, and each sample is immediately measured after 30min. The height of the exudate of the strip.
