In the medical field, non-woven fabrics are usually used to make disposable masks, hoods, protective clothing, shoe covers, disposable sheets, etc. Masks are usually made of two kinds of non-woven fabrics. The outer and inner layers of the mask are PP spun-bond non-woven fabrics and the middle layer is melt-blown non-woven fabrics. Polypropylene (PP) is the raw material of both non-woven fabrics. Here are the advantages of non-woven fabric for medical masks.
1. Light Weight
With polypropylene resin as the main raw material, the specific gravity is only 0.9, which is only 3/5 of cotton.
2. Soft and Comfortable
The product is composed of fine fibers (2-3D) and formed by hot-melt bonding of light spots.
3. Waterproof
The breathable polypropylene chips have no hygroscopicity. The moisture content is zero. The end product is with good waterproofness. Non-woven fabric for the medical mask is composed of 100% fiber with good air permeability. It is easy to keep it dry and clean.
4. Non-toxic and Non-irritating
The raw materials of non-woven fabric for medical masks do not contain other chemical components. It is stable in performance, non-toxic, tasteless, and non-irritating.
5. Antibacterial and Chemical Corrosion Resistance
Polypropylene is a chemically inactive substance. It is resistant to insects and can isolate bacteria in liquid. Its antibacterial properties and resistance to alkali corrosion prevent the final product from being affected by corrosion.
6. Good Physical Properties
The non-woven fabric for medical masks is made of polypropylene staple fiber that is directly spun into a net and thermally bonded. The strength of the product is better than ordinary staple fiber products. The intensity is non-directional and similar in both vertical and horizontal directions.
7. Environmental Protection
The raw material of most non-woven fabrics is polypropylene, while the raw material of plastic bags is polyethylene. Although the names of the two substances are similar, the chemical structures are quite different. The chemical molecular structure of polyethylene is very stable and extremely difficult to decompose, so the decomposition of plastic bags takes 300 years. The chemical structure of polypropylene is unstable. Its molecular chain is easily broken, so it can be effectively degraded, and then enters the next environmental cycle in a non-toxic form. The non-woven fabric can be completely decomposed within 90 days. Its pollution to the environment after being discarded is only 10% of the plastic bag.
